Sun Protection for Children: Why It’s Absolutely Essential

Children’s skin is much more sensitive than adults’, making it especially vulnerable to the harmful effects of UV radiation. Just a few serious sunburns in childhood can significantly increase the risk of skin cancer later in life. That’s why sun protection for young children is not optional — it’s essential.

Always apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 50 or higher to exposed skin, and dress your child in lightweight, long-sleeved clothing, a wide-brimmed hat, and UV-protective sunglasses. Try to keep them in the shade during peak sun hours (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) and remember to reapply sunscreen every two hours, or more often if they’re playing in water or sweating.

Teaching kids good sun habits early helps protect their skin now and sets them up for a healthier future.
